Music

As a ‘working towards Artsmark’ school, we recognise the importance of the arts. We strive to achieve music excellence for all children through a curriculum which creates authentic opportunities that excite, engage and inspire all learners. Our children are provided with opportunities to listen to, analyse and create music whilst building upon musical skills year by year. In addition to this children in years 2 and 3 have an opportunity to learn to play the recorder.

We use singing as a platform to praise in assemblies, collective worships and masses. Children are encouraged to perform in groups and as individuals through song to help build confidence.  In addition to this, our year 3 and 4 children are taught choral singing by the Leeds Diocese.

Here at St. Mary’s we host choir and Musical Theatre club for key stage two and Music club for key stage one.

Impact:

Young Voices 2020

25 of our young people joined a choir of over 500 children at the Fly DSA arena in Sheffield on 13th January 2020. Thanks to Dionne, we were able to learn the songs and dances needed to take part. It was an amazing evening.

Intent:  learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical
excellence
